Kirtan music – what is that? If you have ever been to a yoga class, there is a good chance that you have been exposed to it. This is what most yoga instructors put on while you are stretching and sweating. It helps you focusing during the movements and meditation. Kirtan is a devotional music for Bhakti side of yoga, yoga of love and piety, when the mantras usually in Sanskrit are sang to the original music. It is said that when you sing mantras you feel blissful and content. At Kirtan concerts even if you are not a Kirtan music devotee you will be moved and may be even a bit enlightened.
Of many Kirtan artists Krishna Das stands apart for his rich low voice that melts your heart. He is a simple guy who started from playing in Rock bands in the 60s. After meeting world famous guru Maharaj-ji in 1970 and discovering the spiritual life for himself to turned to Kiran. It didn’t happen overnight but Krishna Das found his life mission to sing for his guru in the West and so many people are truly happy that he did!
