The Midland Concert Series at the Bronxville Women’s Club invites all music lovers to this fantastic celebration of love. The program features pianist Oxana Mikhailoff, violinist Shem Guiborry, and cellist Robert Burkhart.

Whether you like romantic music or prefer a jazzy vibe of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess or are a fan of the tense melodic beauties of Shostakovich’s Preludes, you will find all of them in the program and you will love them.

Hailed as “The adventurous cellist” by The New Yorker Magazine, Robert P. Burkhart performs all across New York City’s diverse musical landscape. As a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral principal, section player, and Broadway musician, he has performed in most major concert halls in New York, in more than 30 states across the country, and internationally.

As chamber music collaborator, Burkhart has performed at Alice Tully Hall, Bargemusic, Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Hall, and The Rose Studio at Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He has been a guest artist with Absolute Ensemble, Fireworks Ensemble, Musica Reginae, Performers of Westchester, Perspectives Ensemble, and SONYC. Accompanying dance, he has performed with the Mark Morris Dance Group chamber ensemble and with renowned tap artist Savion Glover.

Shem Guiborry, a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts and a fellowship recipient from the Rockefeller Foundation (Bellagio), is an award-winning soloist and chamber musician, and a creator of mixed-media performance art. Since 1992, he has been a member of the first violin section of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and has appeared as soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Beethoven Halle Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony and the Symphony of the New World.

Guiborry was the original violinist in the Steve Reich Ensemble which resulted in recording an American classic of avant-garde music Violin Phaseon with the ECM label.

Through his company Innovative Music Programs, founded in 2002, he has developed a series of imaginative programs that reflect his desire to develop an expressive performance language derived from the intrinsic unity of the Arts.

Oxana Mikhailoff, a Russian-born American pianist of an extraordinary talent, is known for her vast repertoire ranging from Baroque to contemporary composers. She is a second-prize winner at the Martha Argerich International Piano Festival in 2003. In addition to her appearances at the acclaimed music halls around the world from Argentina to North America and Europe, she is a recognized educator maintaining an active teaching career in Westchester, NY.

Mikhailoff is an artistic director of Midland Concert Series at the Bronxville Women’s Club in Bronxville, NY. Her artistic vision for the Midland Concert Series is driven by her mission to bring world-class musicians to perform in Westchester, NY.

The Bronxville Women’s Club was founded in 1925 by Anna Lawrence Bisland, its first president. The present site, which is on the Westchester County Inventory of Historic Places from 1999 and on the National List of Historic Places from 2007, was donated by Bisland to the Club in 1928. The Club offers a diverse selection of educational, cultural, civic, health and art programs. Midland Concert Series is an ever-popular example of the exciting classical music events taking place at the Club.
