Join the American Opera Project and Opera On Tap for the Season Two premiere of Adrienne Danrich’s Music as the Message, reimagined as an interactive, free virtual performance, available to all. Goodwill offerings are accepted and donors at the $30 level or above may receive a personal invitation to join members of the community in the live studio audience, as space allows. Together, let us usher in this season of renewal, reopening and reflection, celebrating the greatest four letter word ever created — LOVE!

Joining Danrich and Music as the Message Ensemble (Victoria A. Davis, Patrice P. Eaton, Cameo Humes, Scott Tomlinson) will be guest artists Marsha Thompson, Blythe Gaissert, Andrew Garland, James Moore, Violetta Zabbi, Brian Shankar Adler, Dwight Howard, Peter Siedenberg, and Broadway Presbyterian pastor, Chris Shelton. The episode will also see the premiere of the newly-commissioned song Muse of Memory by Adrienne Danrich and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec (Sanctuary Road, The Shining).

Opera in NY: New Opera Scenes by Emerging Composers

NEW OPERA SCENES CREATED IN THE 2019-2021 COMPOSERS & THE VOICE PROGRAM

This September, The American Opera Project (AOP) kicks off its 33rd season with premiere music from five distinctive new operas at an outdoor concert in its home neighborhood of Fort Greene, Brooklyn. C&V SCENE AND HEARD showcases opera scenes from five emerging composers  – Matt Frey, Alaina Ferris, Michael Lanci, Mary Prescott, and Jessica Rudman – who created the works during their fellowships in AOP’s opera writing program Composers & the Voice (C&V). The biannual event is a rare look at the creative process in action, hosted by C&V Artistic Director Steven Osgood.

The scenes will be performed by C&V’s resident opera singers Jasmine Muhammad (lyric soprano, Metropolitan Opera), Timothy Stoddard (tenor, Bare Opera), Justine Aronson (coloratura soprano, Bang on a Can Summer Festival), and Mario Diaz-Moresco (baritone, Glimmerglass Opera), as well as guest artists Nina Riley (soprano, Bronx Opera), Victoria Davis (soprano, Washington National Opera), Blythe Gaissert (mezzo-soprano, Metropolitan Opera, LA Opera), and Cáitlín Burke (mezzo-soprano, Wolf Trap Opera).

At check-in, audience members will be required to show proof of full vaccination using either the NEW YORK STATE EXCELSIOR PASS or a hard copy/photo of your vaccination card alongside a form of ID. Performers will be distanced but unmasked.

Musicians For Harmony returns to Merkin Hall to celebrate its 20th Anniversary with an online and in-person concert. This special event aims to elevate musical voices in the service of peace, health and equity to commemorate the victims of 9/11, Covid-19 and social injustice. The concert will feature performances by the Juilliard String Quartet, Syrian clarinetist Kinan Azmeh with his CityBand, ETHEL and Musique Sans Frontières.

Beyond NYC: Art FUNdraising Auction for Gallery Reopening

Mamaroneck Artists’ Guild Gallery reopens in August 2021 with a Summer FUNdraising Auction.

View artworks at the gallery and place the bids online thru Aug 24.

After almost a year of operating exclusively online, Mamaroneck Artists Guild reopens its Art Gallery in Larchmont, NY. Its new modern space is located in the heart of a charming village of Larchmont at 1987 Palmer Avenue. The gallery will hold group and solo exhibits by the artist members, showcase artisanal crafts and jewelry from the boutique, and offer other events and workshops.

The first show is a Summer FUNdraising Auction on August 3 – 27, 2021. All proceeds from the auction will support the Guild and ensure that it keeps bringing artworks to the public. Support the arts and local artists by placing a bid online or visiting the gallery at 1987 Palmer Ave in Larchmont, NY; Summer hours: Thur-Sat, 12-5pm.

The Mamaroneck Artists’ Guild Gallery is a not for profit 501-3(c) organization. Located in the village of Larchmont and founded in 1953, it is the oldest artists’ co-operative, maintaining its own non-profit gallery, in Westchester County. Today, the Guild comprises of 150 members in various art media and fine crafts many of which have gone on to achieved national recognition.

Mamaroneck Artists Guild Gallery presents members’ work exclusively, alternating group shows with solo exhibitions, occasionally at other venues.

There are also programs for members and the community including visual presentations, demonstrations, workshops, critiques, and professional development programs for artists.
