Shambhala Buddhism: The Great Eastern Sun

Peace of mind, positive thinking, healthy compassionate relationships – if you are intrigued by these topics, there is a place in NYC where a vision of Enlightened Society is taught and practiced. The place is Shambhala Meditation Center in Chelsea, NYC. For 40 years the center brings Shambhala Buddhism with its secular practices and teachings to New Yorkers. These teachings help cultivating wholesomeness, sanity and joy in everyday life as well as lead to achieving enlightened society. Its program offers Shambhala Training weekend retreats, numerous weekly courses, contemplative arts, and extremely popular open house talks every Tuesday on various practical aspects of life. The podcasts of these and some other talks are available on the Center’s website blog. You may also want to attend a simple one hour “Learn to meditate”  program offered every Sunday and Wednesday.

One of the upcoming workshops will be about “Political activism and the vision of the Enlightened Society.”  This program becomes particularly relevant now days when our society is so divided, frustrated and even hopeless at times. This program is on April 5, 2017.

Notes from Django-a-GoGo concert

Notes from Django-a-GoGo concert on March 3, 2017

It was an incredible night of jazz-manouche culminating in an amazing finale with 9 guitars and the band. If one thinks about oneself as a guitar music fan he got to be there. The virtuosity of the musicians combined with time-tested Django compositions have pleased everyone in the audience. The celebration would go well past 11pm if it wasn’t for the Carnegie Hall rules. Granted the style of the music is calling for an intimate setting unlike grand Stern auditorium, the concert was still a huge success thanks to Stephane Wrembel and  his all-star band. By the way, the feast continues on Sundays at Barbes in Brooklyn. Its hard to capture the spirit and action onsite as recording is not allowed, but lets use the imagination to color up this collage:
